is it audio? video? becuase i thought it was a video, but my windows media is playing it like an audio piece

it is a movie file, but windows media player often has trouble playing avi files, and sometimes has trouble even if you have the codec installed.

go to www.divx.com. there you can download a media player that will play .avi files perfectly.

Even though .avi is a video file. Your windows media may not be fully decode some of the video image.
For example: You may need Divx codec with windows media to play some of the .avi file.

Ok AVI is Audio Video Interlaced its a windows specfcation and has been in use for many years. There are other AVI's that require a codec but AVI does not always mean it needs codec.

It's a video file that is highly compressed compared to most standards. AVI however is not a standard format, thus you need to download the codec the avi file was made with. Most likely, it's divx.

AVI files are video - but there are several different "flavors" of AVI - one has already been mentioned, DivX. Another popular version is XviD. Generally, I recommend installing BOTH codecs to ensure you can play the vast majority of AVI files out there.

It is audio and video. If you lack a DVD or similar codec it will only play the audio and not the video side of the interlace.

yes .avi is a video file that usually has audio with it. ive had that problem before, its probably a corrupted file
