Some people should leave this planet.

(I have a list.)

We should consider ourselves lucky that we have survived so long. There are many heavenly bodies that are darting past by our solar system and any of them might hit our earth some day and we will become history like dinosaurs. What if there is a supernova formation just in our neighborhood and engulfs our solar system in that. Also we know that the earth has faced several ice ages. And one might be just round the corner. Then again you can always count human created extinction like nuclear or biological holocaust, global warming, unrestricted pollution, population explosion and exploitation of resources till there is no more.
So I agree that humans should start searching a new place in advance

Absolutely. His critics say we should just build bunkers here on earth. That's no good because if earth gets contaminated or destroyed, the bunkers would just get contaminated or destroyed too. Personally, I think we should build some sort of self-sustaining base in the middle of nowhere (like Antartica) as practice. Keep in mind, Biosphere 2 was a miserable failure so we need to get that right before we consider leaving earth. After we get that to work, go the moon, then Mars and so on. Personally, I'd want to live on Europa, the icy moon of Jupiter.

Earth is going to be destroyed whether it be by George Bush, or an astroid or something else. It could happen tomorrow it could happen in a million years. The point is we need to stop sending robots to mars, its a waste of money. We need to get the top minds in the world together to design it. By the time they finish everything will be outdated so the station has to be able to be easily upgraded and made wih the strongest material.
The USA cant be responsible for it and it should be something every country is involved in.

Or we could ask Don Rumsfield to let us in the his UFO cover ups, he is one of the few people in this world to know the truth about Area 51 and a lot of other alien stuff.

At some point in time if we survive we will absolutely need to! The Earth, if not destroyed by an asteroid or comet, will eventually be consumed by the sun as it starts to die. If we want to survive, which by the way is the primal instinct of man, we must move to a safer place! At best, its a roll of the dice that we will make it.

Yes, I do. He has some valid points. If life on Earth was exterminated tomorrow then that's us... gone. We have the ablility to prevent our demise by not having all our eggs in one cosmic basket, by setting up colonies elsewhere in the solar system. These colonies could if possibly be the seeds of a future human regeneration on Earth.

Someone famous once said "the earth is the cradle of mankind, but who stays in a cradle?"

Hawking did not say we should "leave" the Earth. He said we should spread out, and put down colonies on other worlds. There's a big difference.

When Spain colonized Mexico & South America, did they all leave Spain?

And yes, we should spread humanity out.

Totally and absolutely, just look at the last 50 years, then multiply the damage for the next 50 years....are you so gullible that you think we can reverse the damage? Sooner than we think, we will not be able to live here any longer, maybe within our life, or our children's lives.

If we don't destroy ourselves first, the day will come when Earth will no longer have the resources to support our species. We then have one option--leave the planet and find a home elsewhere.

It doesn't take Stephen Hawking to tell us that, the shear size of the Universe itself already dictates it.

It's our destiny. :)

Yes, and it is preferable to the feudalization which will result with massive increases in population on earth, as more and more rights are conceded just to be allowed to work.
