My recommendation is 1) The Color of Water ...then 2) Black Like Me
I suggest getting your head into a book that you can relate to and be able then to discern for "YOURSELF" which it should be. Actually the second book I recommended would be the easiest book to get into and will wet your grey matter for more reading. Perhaps you must read one of these and do a report, I have no idea....however the second book is a Classic and very touching.
I think/know that life is all about "Ethics" and this book holds true for so long now that 'if' you have a propensity for ethical situations and putting yourself in another's shoes, THIS is the book to begin with. Thank You.

Most accessible I would say are "The Color of Water" and then "Black Like Me". The latter changed my whole way of viewing people. The Woman Warrior was a book I couldn't get into. The others I have not read.

The Woman Warrior! What a truly original, graspable, readable, amazing book. I've had that in my collection for years and years. I go back to it every twelve months at least. Read it, please, it is so fascinating and so . . . relevant, somehow, even though it's about China ages ago, it's also about women today. I hated Reading Lolita in Tehran, by the way, it just wasn't interesting, very dry. Read The Woman Warrior, it's wonderful.

I would read Black Like Me . I remember it as being clearly written and not that difficult to understand. It is also a good book to see things from a different point of view.

I haven't read any of the books before, so I would recommend that you read the back covers, maybe the first few pages... it really depends on your own reading tastes.
