Pop is correct , however some states have used the name soda for many years , that many forgot "pop" is the name for a soft drink .Really , soft drink would make both of you wrong with some people .I'd say as long as I get a drink when I'm thrust , that's all that matters ! Soda down south is a float here ( soda & ice cream ) A pop up here is a hit , slap ,... If in Rome do as the roman do !

Both...I'm from NY. The western side says pop, the eastern side says soda. Might be the other way around, I actually forgot now because it's not something I really care about. Here are the terms that all mean the same thing:
Pop
Soda
Coke
Soda-Pop
Carbonated Drink
Liquid Poison
Drink water or juice. That stuff you speak of will kill you slowly and painfully.

In some parts of the East they say "cola" it is a very regional thing in California lots of people use "coke" to mean any soda. No answer is any more correct than the other. However you could both be right. I remember watching reruns od Leave it to Beaver and Wally asked the Beav if he wanted a "Soda Pop"

I say soda (I live in Arkansas...and was born in Texas) and my aunts and uncles (from Minnesota) say pop. I have a lot of very southern friends who call any kind of soda "coke!"
It's all about region, culture, and environment, hunny! That's what's so fun about getting to know people all around the world - you learn a lot about how what you say is not the only way to say it.

Really. Try understanding different parts of the country say different things: Soft drinks, pop, soda, tonic, coke are used. Pop is Midwest. Soft drinks West. Etc.This is changing due to the media.

I have a Friend from Wisconsin that says "pop" too. As amatter of fact, everyone I know in the midwest does. Further west, everyone seems to say "soda". I am in California, and we say soda here. It appaers to be regional difference. I hope this helps.
