Actually I am doing the exact same thing, its easier to avoid situations that ask a lot of us, than to confront them head on and get them done. I should be finishing a take home mid-term exam, yet I am here answering your question. And eventually the last minute will come and I will be screwed.

It sounds like the education system is letting you down. Try to find something outside of school that you do enjoy learning and focus some of your time on that.

It is the "id" side of you seeking pleasure, rather than doing something you don't want to do.
It could also be that your brain is tired and so it is slowing down your ability to concentrate on your homework.
