So glad you posed this question - i'm new on here and i was starting to wonder if i was the only one who was taken aback to say the least by some of the hurtful responses to questions.
Sadly, i think the reality is a lot of people on line as in in real life would rather joke or dismiss other peoples requests for help and answers - maybe thinking its "uncool" to ask for help and life's one continual big laugh. They simply don't care about anything other than having a good time and get a thrill of doing it at someone's expense and for them the internet is for entertainment. They don't seem to see that it's also a source of a wealth of information and is as good as you use it.
I have been heartened to see that there are some people though who have a heart and take the time out to answer someone's problems with thought, detail, well placed humour and care. It's nice to see that there are some good apples amongst those rotton ones.

Welcome to the real world. Why would you expect it to be any different in here from anywhere else. Seriously, there are eejits everywhere, in the workplace, in the pub on the bus and in the chat rooms. You just learn to ignore these, treat them with the contempt they deserve, and carry on as you normally do.
Its nice if you get a genuine response to a genuine question on a site like this, but if you have a real issue, perhaps you should consult a friend or a professional. Dont be too sensitive, and good luck

I know! It's completely uncalled for.
I've read some questions that are clearly written by heartbroken individuals, desperate enough to reach out to strangers.
I don't know where so much anger comes from in a person's heart. Maybe it is frustration with some aspect of their life. Maybe it's crack. Maybe boredom. It should be reported as abuse. I'd almost go so far as to suggest that, if a cruel response leads to a person causing themselves harm, the responder should be held in some way liable. If a person is so filled with anger and rage that they need to take it out on an innocent victim, that should not be tolerated.

i'm in no way nasty nor am I spiteful to a valid question. even if i do no longer wade through fools gladly and that i will respond to variety with variety. there have been a good number of spiteful ,callous and nasty questions that were requested for no reason except all the above. what's valid about that?

Yeah and some people come on here to ask a bunch of stupid shite and waste everyone's time. If I had a dollar for everytime i have clicked a question that said "Please help me" and it was some stupid kid trying to say something about sex or no relevance to anything... I would indeed be a rich man.
Mine are sometimes nasty, but I usually try and phrase it in a funny and entertaing way.

People are basically cowards & they feel brave enough on this site to say things in print that they would never, ever dare to say to anyone face to face. Therei is no come-back & no real names are used so they feel safe to disrespect people.
Although some people do ask some really stupid questions, don't they?

I think some of them have a low self esteem and it makes them fell better about themselves. I have given some sarcastic comments to a few people who really push my buttons about certain subjects. Not everyone is like that. It's better to just not answer them if you can't be constructive. That's what I try to do.

The one ones that get nasty replies are to the people whose questions are clearly a joke, painfully filled with misspellings, or questions to things that have been asked so many times we're spinning from it all.
(Or they're trolls looking for attention.)

People think that they are cool whilst answering not realising that some one may not be soo net savvy or having all the resources . I only hope one day these people who give such crude replies get it back, from, may be, their own kids, and then realise how it feels.

I agree with you , I asked a simple question about 'was I right to hit my old granny' and I got lots of uncalled for abuse among the answers, so I hit her again!
I'm not going to ask for any more advise from this forum.
(Does that make you want to give a rude response)??
