what do you put down on a lawn that is more weed than grass?

Besides lawn evy and dandalions, there is something with a little purple flower and many others.I really do have more weed than grass.

I recommend just tilling your ground up and staring over and planting new grass all together. Scotts Weed and Feed works but that sounds like an awful lot of weeds and I think the one with the purple flowers are hard to get rid of. Till it up, the the weeds dry out and die, then repant with grass seed and spread straw on top.

The lawn ivy (also called Creeping Charlie) might be where the purple flower is coming from. That's it's normal bloom. It can spread and take over a lawn. I'd recommend a good broadleaf killer. I prefer the dry kind that you spread with a spreader. I put it down in the Spring. I think that's a pre-emergent killer. You can also find ones that will kill existing broadleaf weeds while leaving your lawn alone. If it's too far gone you can always spray the lawn with Roundup and kill everything and start over with new grass seed. Good luck!!

I used to run a lawn mowing buisness. Use a weed n feed spray. It is designed to kill broard leaf green plants only, so the thin leaf plants ie grass does not die. Follow up 4 weeks later with another spray.

Lipia - it's a broad leafed annual. I think it is native to Australia. We grown it like lawn. It is very tough, and can go without water for many days. It is always pleasant to walk on except when it flowers, the bee's arrive, which can result in the odd bee sting.
