Actually most fighting roosters are not good with children, unless you clip their spurs and beak, at which point they no longer are effective protectors of the house.
Banty Roosters have been known to be very feisty when protecting their turf, but then again they are not good with children. The babies always grab at the colorful tails which simply stated, sends the rooster through the roof,at which point the feathers fly and not gracefully either.
The Whites are a fine looking rooster and they tend to be somewhat calm around children, their docile nature is not famous for the protection of property. But they are quite delicious guests for Sunday dinner.
Actually one type of fowl that is less flighty around children is the Guinea hen. She is a soft shade of gray with white splotches covering her rounded form. However, if a stranger should approach this little bird, it sets up such a squawk and clucking sound along with flying feathers that the racket startles many a wolf and coyote and causes them to back in sheer surprise. The Guinea hen comes replete with spurs. This bird is not as impressive as many of the roosters, but what is lacking in size and ferocity is more than made up by the horrendous racket and flapping of wings and brandishing of spurs.
Most birds are relatively hard to hit with a saturday night special, and is too quick for many magnums. However, if a shotgun is brandished, there is little hope.
Along with being relatively docile with children, the Guinea hen is very decorative and enhances the flora of the property. They tend to leave the koi alone in the pond also.
Good Luck with your choice.
