I have a 1987 ford ranger. It seems to be getting very weak. I can usually pinpoint problems with cars on my own but this has me stumped. If you baby it , it seems so sluggish and weak. but if you tromp on it it almost feels like a brand new one. whatt could this be? It has the 2.3 liter four cylinder and a plain c4 tranny with over drive.

Hard question to answer. How many miles? A simple trans flush might solve your problem. Is the TV {Kickdown}cable adjusted correctly? When was your last tune up? Timing could also be a factor.

try a tune up and have the timing checked and set if needed.
