Ever hear the phrase "two are better than one"?

Having two eyes is certainly better than having just one because two eyes provide us with stereo vision and depth perception -- two things that just eye could not give us.

With 2 ½ inches separating our two eyes, each eye views an object from a slightly different angle. For instance, if you hold up a flower and look at it with just your right eye, the image is different from the image of when you look at it with just your left eye. The right eye sees more of the right side of the flower while the left eye sees more of the left side of the flower. If you placed the two different images on top of one another, they would not match and our vision would be out of focus. However, our brains sort out these varying visual messages from our two eyes, combines the images, and the recreates one three-dimensional image.

This is referred to as binocular vision. Just like your look through two lenses in binoculars, humans view the world through two lenses. The eyes of many other animals are placed differently than ours. Many birds have an eye on each side of their head. Each eye sees a completely separate area stretching out on the left or the right.

Viewing the world through two eyes provides us with depth perception. When you look at the flower through just one eye, it looks a lot flatter.

Two eyes are better than one. Your perception is greater with both eyes, the range in degrees is greater. Try this: cover one eye and look and remember what is the range you can see. Now uncover the eye and you'll notice that the range is almost 50 greater with both eyes. In reality you can see more at once with both eyes.

Even though you have a 20/20 vision with one eye it doesn't mean it's just as good as tow.

With only one eye, a person does not have accurate depth perception. Two eyes helps you judge the distance of objects and their relationship to other objects around you. Try this experiament:

You'll need a penny and a small cup

Place the cup in front of you and close one of your eyes. Now try to drop the penny in the cup. Chances are, with one of your eyes covered, you will miss the cup completely!

They put the small tow eyes on the bottom of your vehicle, usually one or two in the front and at least one in the back to make it easier to hook a cable or a chain to it in case your car goes off the road or in to a ditch and has to be pulled out.

Seeing everything with one eye is fine... but you don't have the same sort of depth perception you do with two eyes.

Most predator animals have both eyes up front, so that when they look at something they see it with both eyes. It gives them great depth perception so they can judge distances effectively.

Most prey animals have their eyes seperated, which means they can see behind them and to the sides better, but they can't judge distances as well.

People who only have vision in one eye often have trouble with driving and other activities where judging distance is important.

Hope this answers your question.

What is seen in the right eye is processed in the left brain.

What is seen in the left eye is processed in the right brain.

If the two parts of the brain are cut in half, you could read something, but not write what you see, because both sides of the brain no longer communicate.

We have two eyes, because our brains are split into two sections, evidence of a creator with an infinite mind, not evolution.

Depth perception and three dimensional perception is enhanced by 2 points of reference which is what your 2 eyes achieve.

Toodles.

peripheral vision, you would lose the ability to see on on side of you without turning your head, put your finger out in front of your face and move it from one side of you to the other, without moving your head, then close one eye and do the same, you would have a hard time of looking in the rear view mirror, and looking at the road ahead, or seeing someone sneek up on you.
