this is because when a person dies... the air enters his body.. and it gets heavier and expands that is why not only his nose but even ears are covered with cotton and even the mouth is tightly closed

I assume the brain particularly begins to decompose. The nose is a direct pathway from the brain (remember the egyptians pulled out brains through the nose?). Therefore, I assume cotton is used as a sort of plug to prevent seepage.

A foul smell emits from the nose when a person is dead, and they put cotton so as not to entice insects, worms, maggots and other tiny living organisms that will feast on the dead body in an instant.

people start excreting all their body fluids once they die. this is a nice easy way to keep everything clean.
