Don't feel bad about this - I'm in college, and I've still never heard the term chain discount before - I had to look it up. A chain discount is one where each percentage in the chain is applied to the price resulting from the previous discount. So for your first problem, you would apply a 6 percent discount, get the result, apply a 5 percent discount to that, get the result, and then apply a 4 percent discount to _that_ to get your final answer. So for your first problem, the answer is $1950*.94*.95*.96=$1671.70 to the nearest cent. I'm sure you can figure out how to solve the second problem on your own.
