Well my first born was born with a birth defect so it was about three days before we could even try to feed her and she had no interest in me!!!! so i pumped for her for about 6 wekks. My second child nursed until he was 13 months and as he got older it was more at night to go to sleep, my third child used me!!!! She nursed for 15 months and again she got used to falling asleep for the night while she was nursing and my fourth baby nursed for 8 months but he was a noisy eater and neede to see what everyone else was doing so he weened himself!!! Nursing a baby is great for both mom and baby, but I dont look down on moms who dont want to or cant, it has to work for everyone.

My son was breastfed for his first 2 years although I slowly tapered off after a year or year and a half (ie. stopped night feeding). I did introduce solid foods at 6 months and steadily added foods for him to add to diet. Breastfeeding provided comfort when he was sick, and was an amazing way to connect with my child. I found it far more difficult to let it go, since it really was a bonding thing.

I had the luxury of being a stay-at-home mom, who didn't have to work about work schedules getting in the way of breastfeeding.
Some women have problems with continuing breastfeeding due to duct infections or problems.

About 6 months for both my kids. Only the first 3 as the sole nutrient. Then I supplemented for the next 3. By @ 6 months both were weened. I think it's OK to do longer, maybe until a year, but this was the best time for us to quit.

My son was born almost 3 months early and he had to be on a feeding tube so I pumped breastmilk for him until he came home from the hospital. He went on to formula because I could not produce enough for him. He will be 2 in August and is VERY healthy and people cannot tell that he was a preemie.

I breast fed my son for over 2 1/2 years! He weaned off of me 3 months ago. I am pregnant with our 2nd child! And I plan to nurse this child as long as I can!

i formula fed my first 3 and decided to try breast feeding with my 4th. i made it 3 days. sounds bad but i was having a terrible time with my 4, 2 and 1 yr olds. while i was breastfeeding i sat on the couch while my kids trashed the house. not very peaceful experience. i tried though i give all you women so much credit. my babe is 5 weeks old today and i am so thankful that they invented formula!!!.

I was not breastfed myself ;-) but I nursed 1 kid for 2 years, another for 4 years. No one has to know how long they nursed, but the benefits continue for a lifetime.

Every child for a different length of time, but all of them for at least the recommended 2 years.

my firstborn did not take: 3 months with formula

second: not at all

third: 3 - 4 months then put on special formula for colic and upset tummy

note: all were preemies

but most average around 6 months.
