John Marshall- First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Established that Democracy and Capitalism are two different ideas and that in times of national crises or when these two ideas are pitted against each other our Democratic Republic should always overrule our Capitalist Economy.

These Presidents have followed this theme and are our greatest
Thomas Jefferson (Jeffersonian Republican)
Teddy Roosevelt ( Republican)
Franklin Delano Roosevelt ( Democrat)
Abraham Lincoln (Republican)

Others have not and they are our worst
Andrew Jackson (Democrat)
Ulysses S. Grant (Republican)
Calvin Coolidge (Republican)

Please read about these men

Jefferson fought the federalist who were trying to create a monarchy without a King.
Teddy Roosevelt fought big business, settled union disputes, was Al Gore 100 years ago.
Franklin Roosevelt knocked back the business machine that had been growing and dividing this nation since the civil war and made things as fairer for many Americans.
Abraham Lincoln put the entire idea of "America" on the line by standing up to people who never understood what America was anyway and by standing up for the least among us.

Marshall never said those words but without his early decisions our course as a nation would have taken an incredibly different path.

I honestly believe that though we may not be able to see it yet, history will show it was Jimmy Carter. He rose from nothing to the presidency, seemed to have been dealt a crushing defeat, but refused to cave-in to the popular ideas for his higher values, and has gone on to be the greatest former president in history.
