Okay, I was at work today andI was supposed to work from 12-5. I really didn't feel well, and I had a killer headache. Well I work as a cashier and so I was checking out groceries and everything. I guess when my headache ensued, I didn't say hello or anything to this older gentleman and he called my boss and told him that I was rude. I don't know.. Was I? either way, since I was sick, my boss sent me home a half an hour early. I don't know if it was because of this man that called, or if I wasn't feeling well because he knew that. What should I do about my next step at work?

I would consider it rude, yes. You have a 'service related' job, and part of that is greeting the customer who comes through your check out line.
Perhaps you should call in sick if you cannot greet your customers, or try to say "hello" and whatever else is required, even if you don't feel well. I hate to say it, but most of us have to put aside our personal problems and do our jobs whether we feel like it or not. I'm not fussing at you, just telling you that the 'perfect' job, where you don't have to work when you feel bad is very, very, very hard to find. I'm sorry, but it's just a fact of life.

It doesn't sound like you are in trouble or anything....it kind of sounds like your boss realized you needed to go home. I'd put forth a genuine effort at friendliness and smiles just to let your boss know that you are a good employee. We all have bad days....he knows that.

You don't get sent home because you do not feel well (you ask to leave). Were you rude? Well that is in the eyes of the people who determine your behavior at the time (if they see your side you were not, if they don't then you were). In your eyes, your reason was you were not feeling well. The problem with this is people do not have a sign that hangs over their head telling others of their current status. So he knew you were not feeling well how? This is an argument you can not win. So what is your next course of action? You were wrong (in the eyes of everyone but yourself) so it is time for damage control. Rather then trying to win a battle (that you can't). Admit that you were wrong & the customers have no way of knowing about your current state. Then add that this is something you will think about and correct in the future.

Is it the answer you wanted to hear? lol prolly not, but it is the answer your boss wants to hear.

Everbody's got their bad/sick days. We can't help it, we r humans & we do fall sick or have bad headaches sometimes. Don't feel bad. U did'nt mean to be rude. It is difficult to smile & greet someone when your head's throbbing like hell! Perhaps you can apologise to your boss coz he was kind enough to let u off early. Put on a big smile for him & say thank you for being so understanding once you get back to work. Then, just get on with your work as usual girl!!!! The old man probably had a bad day & needed a smile & a hello from you that's all. Hey, cheer up , u r fine. Take care.

Don't dwell on it. Just tell your boss that you had a massive headache, he might understand. Besides there is always a brand new day. In a way you can start fresh again. I know how you feel. I worked at a theme park last year and I did get a few rude comments.

i'm sorry to hear about your killer headache and that man who told on you to your boss....i don't blame you at all....i wish that guy could understand why you did that.....i mean, you weren't feeling well....how awful....i think you should just go to work tomorrow as nice as you normally are....then when your boss brings up the incident with the man gain, just tell him the situation.....that you really weren't feeling well....but you forced yourself to go to work because you feel responsible for your job...i hope you feel better!

go and explain to your boss that you may have been rude but you are unsure as you were under the weather and tell your boss that in the future you take more precaution as to your actions.

Dont worry about it. Anyone that works in retail gets the occasional complaint made about them.
