no, they offset the starts, so that everyone runs the same in a race, but if u were to measure the length, then yes, lane 1 is the smallest

Your high school track is 400 meters, not 440 meters. If it is an older track, it would be 440 yards. 400 meters is 437. 44 yards.
The width of a lane is 1.25 meters. If you run a complete lap, (not using the stagger) each lap you move out from th ecurb will increase the distance you run by 2 x 1.25 x 3.14 = 7.85 meters.
If you run in lane 8, you have moved out 7 lanes, so you increase your distance 7 x 7.85 = 54.98 meters.

lane 1 is 400 meters flat. the rest are longer. but because of the staggered starting points, the runners run the same amount.

whether this is a wonderfully around song and the middle process Lane a million (outermost) is found R1 ft from the circle's center and Lane 5 (innermost) at R2 ft, the version on your truthfully working length would be 2 x Pi (22/7) x (R1-R2) ft If an eliptical or different song varieties, the calculations would be somewhat extra complicated.

They are all the same length. That's why they are all staggered at the starting line.
