I'm trying to figure out how much hardwood flooring to purchase and I don't know how to convert linear feet to square feet. The room I am doing is 17ft X 10 ft. The flooring I want to purchase is 20 sq. ft. per carton adn each plank is 3/4" thick. How do I figure out how many cartons I need??

You didn't say how long the planks are. your room is 170sqft. but you need to know how wide the board is and how long they are. Sorry, Good luck

17 X 10 = 170

20/170= 8.5

so buy 9 cartons

170 ft but if this is your first time you should add 10% for waste or an extra 17ft. If you are just buying some cheap wood from home depot or something just get the 9 boxes and go get more if needed.

The room is 170 sq.ft. 170 sq.ft./ 20 sq.ft in a carton is 8.5 cartons. Round up to 9 cartons. If you are efficient with materials that should be enough. Just use your off falls (meaning the piece you cut off) right.

Multiply the width by the length then divide by the number of square feet in a carton. Your answer would be that you need 8 cartons.

your floor is 170 sq. ft. so a carton is 20 sq. ft so you will need 8.5 cartons but buy 9 you will need some extra for cuts and mistakes...
