Post websites, software, tutorials, programs preferably FREE please. Like I said be for, it could look terrable. I see videos online where they have explosion effects that don't blend in with anything at all but its hilarious!

There are 2 feasible approaches. Either composite the effect in, using software (typically Adobe After effects) or simply find an explosion and jump cut it into your film using editting software. Since you don't care that it will obviously be cheesy, the jump cut is the most feasible approach, as After effects is not cheap. Whatever video editting software you are using, might also allow some simple compositing, so check the manual. You willl of course have to acquire the explosion from someplace.

try filming different types of fireworks really close and at ground level; but not so close you damage your equipment
