Sea Monkeys are Brine shrimp. This all got started along time ago . Back when I was a kid , comic books had adds in them for all kinds if things. You could buy a 101 piece fishing kit for $19.99 and life size posters of Frankenstien and all kinds of things like that. One add showed a picture of a family of creatures that had kinda spiked heads and faces like a human. They all had smiles on thier faces and made you think that they were some kind of monkey or Sea monkey. The picture would show them playing and laughing and swimming. But when we ordered them one time it was Brine shrimp eggs. Just like the kind at your pet store. You could not see a human like face on these brine shrimp when and IF you got them to hatch. It was all atrick to scam little kids money.

Sea-Monkey is a brand name of a hybrid of Artemia salina, a species of brine shrimp. These are a type of fairy shrimp—not true shrimp, but a branchiopod. The term Sea-Monkeys (sometimes unhyphenated) is a trademark used to sell them as a novelty gift. They originate in salt lakes and salt evaporation flats.

Sea-Monkeys can reproduce both sexually (requiring a male and a female) and asexually. When the eggs are laid, there are fewer males than females per "litter". This is probably because they are not needed for reproduction. Females stop reproducing with the males when the males are too few.

Sea Monkeys are small shrimp. In nature, they live in deserts. When it rains, the eggs hatch and they take the opportunity to reproduce. When the pools of water have dried, they go back into homeostasis and wait for the rains again.
