There is no constitutional mandate that we have only two political parties in this country. In fact we have had major candidates for President from a variety of "strong" third parties including Whigs, Federalists, Independents, etc. And, in fact, there are dozens of political parties that have gained full ballot access over the course of our short national history.
The problem is not that new political parties are prohibited from starting. The problem is, most of them come at the problem as single issue or single issue-set parties and by virtue of that fact, limit their own appeal to a broader constituency. Political parties are expected to establish platforms that address a wide variety of issues, not just narrowly defined concerns such as abortion or the environment or taxation (three popular rallying cries for some existing political parties.) Until a group can work out the problem of universal appeal, they are doomed to failure.

Most definitely. The main parties are either part time small-minded zealots / part time greedy, self-absorbed, unprincipled jackasses (Republicans) or frightened, complaining, shiftless, cowards (Democrats). Neither of the parties can get a damn thing accomplished with all of their posturing and double dealings. I wish that all Americans would start to think for themselves and not be the lemmings the establishment wants/needs them to be. A third party option of regular Joes who know what it is like to be poor, who are idealistic and want the best for this (used to be) great country of ours.

Agree 100%. I think a party should be formed on what this country used to be founded on. To conserve our National lands, to conserve our national resources, to become more isolationist, and to stop relying on other governments for our needs.
