Assuming you are talking about the engine oil, there are some differences. My mechanics use 15W40 in the Detroit Diesel I operate, but I am not sure about the SAE information. The place that is selling you the oil should be able to verify that you have the right oil for your engine. It can change by model year.

you can use regular oil in it,just make sure it is a good quality oil, diesel engines have a tendency to break down the oil faster than gas engines, that why they do make a type of oil for a diesel engine, but using the other will not harm it,but like i said make sure its a good quality, cheap oils, are exactly what they are,,,cheap, and can cause damage to some engines, hope this helps you.

I am a diesel mechanic and we use the same oil in gas and diesel engines. I work for my local school system in the school bus garage and we service county vehicles as well as school buses. We use Shell 15w40 motor oil in everything with no problems.

What kind of vehicle do you have? Diesel and Gas engines use the same motor oil. Usually like mercedes we used 20w50 for years in both gas and diesel. New Mercedes and Bmw use primarily synthetic oil 5w30. If you have vehicle before 2000 it is most likely 20w50 and if turbo 10w30 or 10w40. Mercedes turbo diesel is 20w50.

Go by your owners manual's specs. Diesels have higher internal stresses becouse it's a high compression engine. oils have rating. use a oil rated for a DIESEL!

Yes as long as it is engine oil. Check your owner's manual for the specs. Or it may be printed on the cover where you add the oil.

When you go buy the oil, ask the person selling it to you. (Auto Store, don't ask at the gas station or Wal-mart)
