Is it common for plants to grow towards eachother?

I have a row of plants and they all seem to be growing towards eachother! Is it just me or is this common?

It is very common,I have noticed it also.I have come to the conclusion that they try to establish dominance by blocking sunlight to other plants.That is just a theory of mine.
