For argument sake, we'll say he actually existed (no proof besides a book written by man, and according to this very book man is flawed...kinda messed up huh, yet people STILL believe). It's quite possible that he did suffer from some sort of mental malady. If you read the bible it does say that yeah he's the son of God, but his mother was only human...there's scientific proof that mental illnesses are passed on through genes. Mary could've passed them on to him. If that's the case and Mary was a nutcase too, then she probably "imagined" up the immaculate conception, when he really could've been the son of Mary and Joseph. A girl can say she's a virgin, and not be. I didn't see a part of the bible written by her, so it's all hearsay.

I'm being respectful. I could've said it's all a bunch of bullsh*t, and it's the believers who are suffering from a mental illness. But I didn't, now did I. That would be disrespectful. I simply put into words my own doubts in organized religions based off what the bible says.

Well you not being Christian this may not make sence to you but by your question I can tell that you are very articulate so I am certain you will gather something from the following.

I will try to answer your question as best I can. And if you have not studied the Bible then of course you would have questions.
I am happy that you have a question about Jesus.

Chritianity is based in faith in God and his teachings. So maybe you are the curious sort, and questions of God are common rather you are of faith or not.

Mental illness, although it has occured throughout history is not the sourse of Jesus' visions and/or teachings of God and voice contact. Or so I believe. So I will offer you this:

God speaks to us through our minds and hearts. God occasionally speaks audibly to His children when He has placed them in situations that require great faith. Thus, the miraculous aspect of a physical voice coming from nowhere allows us to believe in situations that are beyond us.
John 12:28 (NIV) [Jesus prayed,] "Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again." The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine."

Why did Jesus go out of His way to point out that the voice was not for His benefit? Because He heard God all the time. He was in constant communion with the Father. But the disciples needed to hear it, so they could have faith to believe. Remember, Jesus was about to be rejected by the religious establishment, taunted and humiliated, and executed. So God spoke audibly. God knows when we need a sure word, and works around our lack of maturity in times of great need.

You said you "saw" part of HIS last days of life in history books? Well I don't know of a history book persa' but many chronicals of the Life of Jesus have been writen both by historians, Christian authors and Hollywood.

If you are a movie lover then try: The Passion of Christ, although it displays Old Latin as the dialogue I think you will get some answers.

If you love to read try: the Left Behind series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins is very artful in the way he tells the events but a little over written for me an not the best author in the world.

Try "Left Behind" then go to the next book: "Tribualtion Force" then "Nicolae-The Rise of Antichrist" then "Soul Harvest" If you don't find the answer you are looking for then I know you will be completely captivated by the story itself.

There are many ways to explore the relegious questions you may have. You have made the first step in getting those answers by asking your question.

I hope you find what you seek.............

I am christian and he was unhappy I'm not so sure about the confused part but who wouldn't be unhappy if they knew they were going to die, wouldn't you be. He was talking and hearing things but not in the since that your thinking he was praying (talking to his father) like all real Christians do and the things he was hearing was the response he got from his father(God). The hearing is also not like you think . it's more of a conscience feeling that just comes to you about your prayer. It's very hard to portray that so it comes out like he might of had a mental disease. No offense taken I just hope I helped you understand what was going on a little better.

Actually, this is one of the classic questions regarding Jesus. It is typically expressed as a tri-lemma (as opposed to a di-lemma).

When you start with the fairly simple proposition that Jesus was a historical person Who _claimed_ to be the Son of God, one of three things must be true about Jesus and this claim.

First, Jesus may have been a LIAR--that is, he was not the son of God, knew he was not the son of God and told people he was anyway. The second possibility is that he may have been a LUNATIC--that is, he was not the son of God but believed he was because of a mental disease or defect and thus was not consciously lying when he told people he was. The third possibility is that He is LORD--that is, He is the Son of God and He spoke the truth when He said He was.

For the record, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I find the evidence overwhelming. One reason I tend to reject the "lunatic" prong is that there were numerous witnesses to such events as raising of Lazarus from the dead (found in John 11). In that account, Jesus is apparently unhappy enough to weep and speaks to a non-corporeal being whom He addresses as Father. He seems out of touch with the reality of decomposing corpses when He tells them to open the tomb of Lazarus. And then He orders a dead man--one who had been dead for four days--to come out of the tomb. Certainly this lends itself to the hypothesis that this guy Jesus was mentally unfit.

Except that Lazarus came forth from the tomb, alive, in front of many witnesses who reported it widely. And that's usually not what happens when "lunatics" (or liars, for that matter) command the dead to come forth from a tomb...

I am goint to try to be careful with my words and try not to hurt anyone's feelings.

I believe in Jesus. I don't think that He had a mental problem. He just knew that He had a hard job to do. As far as one of the other answers you got about Mary possibly passing something on to Him, I doubt that very much. Also I would like to give my opinion on the other part that they said about Mary and Joseph. The Bible states that she was pure and a virgin that was one reason God chose her to be the mother of Jesus.

I know you said that you aren't a believer, but you need to find a minister to talk to about this. They can be more precise with answers on the subject than those of us here on yahoo.

He is human also. If Jesus didn't show any emotions, there would definitely be something wrong with Him.

Do you sometimes feel unhappy also? Maybe you are also suffering from some sort of mental disease. Maybe we all do.

Yeah i love how some of the other answers sit there and deny Jesus even though you said to be CAREFUL and be RESPECTFUL of other religions! Well I think it's because he knew that his time was coming pretty fast and he would be leaving his disciples soon! That's it! To some of the people on this one, LEARN TO READ AND UNDERSTAND!!!!!!

It's not easy carrying someone else's burden, especially when he knew what his destiny would be...to die a horrible death on the cross for our sins that we might be reconciled to the father. It wasn't a time for happiness...that came later after his Resurrection.

I am a christian and a "God Lover" I am not offended by your question...it would me wrong of me to do so. Especially if you are asking out of genuine curiosity. If this answers your question then great if not you are more than welcome to question me further.

I think C. S. Lewis said it best. Considering the things Jesus claimed about himself he was either crazy like a man who thinks he is a fried egg; the biggest liar who ever lived; or exactly who he claimed to be...God. We all have to choose which we believe. If you are ready, ask him to reveal himself to you. He loves you and he will.
