Apparently (see the quote/source below) this is less than 1%.
"Incompetent cervix is suspected when a woman has three consecutive spontaneous pregnancy losses during the second trimester (the fourth, fifth and sixth months of the pregnancy). The likelihood of this happening by random chance is less than 1%. Spontaneous losses due to incompetent cervix account for 20-25% of all second trimester losses. A spontaneous second trimester pregnancy loss is different from a miscarriage, which usually happens during the first three months of pregnancy."
You may also want to read the article at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cervical_incompetence
It says, "According to statistics provided by the Mayo Clinic, cervical incompetence is relatively rare in the United States, occurring in only 1 to 2 % of all pregnancies, but it is thought to cause as many as 20 to 25 % of miscarriages in the second trimester."

Common...
Hey I just answered one of your other question.
I think if I were you I'd just take it real easy and not do much of anything. Just lay around and don't lift or clean too much. If you are able not too work. I was so scared the 2nd time around after having a miscarriage at 6 months I wouldn't move.
I have heard some women with the incompetent cervix can have something done while they are PG like they close the cervix.
Good Luck

That's what is sounds like. If there was bleeding and no pain or anything, then those are all the signs of an incompetent cervix. I had my son at 22 weeks, and doctors thought it was due to an IC , but I had cramps, so he ruled that out. But yes, you do have and IC. Next time, they will have to put a stitch to hold the baby in place, and most likely you'll be on bed rest. Sorry for your loss.

2% CHANCE
Incompetant cervix is a cervix that gives way and can lead to premature birth or miscarriage
PREDISPOSING FACTORS
if you have had
multiple miscarriages
multiple terminations of pregnancy
surgery to your cervix or cervical cancer treatment
these may increase your risks
TREATMENT
treatment involves
rest and lots of it no heavy lifting and no sex,
a cervical suture can be inserted after the first trimester to assist the cervix in staying closed and then taken out at 35+ weeks. This doesnot work for everybody and if you labour and your cervix is threatening to tear through the suture it has to be removed
WOMEN WITH INCOMPETANT CERVIX DO BIRTH AT TERM
Stay positive and keep your activity to a minimum and i hope that you will achieve a healty full term baby
Good Luck

this can be common. if you have had to have any tx to your cervix such as a leep procedure or a ckc which are procedures to tx cervical dysplasia (precancerous changes). there is a procedure that can be done to help you carry the pregnancy. it is called a cerclage which means they stitch the cervix closed. you should talk to your doctor about this.

More common then you think.
when I was in hospital for my high risk pregnancy (other things went wrong), of the 20 or so women on the anti natal ward with me at least 5 were there for that reason.
