I mean I never seen so much hatred in all my life from anyone. When they found out I support this site.

If they disagree just say it, why hate me for it?

I don't think they do "hate" you. They may disagree with you. Look, EVERY person on this earth has had someone mistreat their ancestors at some point throughout history. Much or recorded history reveals our world as having been barbaric and cruel. It is unrealistic to expect that some sort of "damages" or reparations are due to the ancestors of all of the oppressed people. As a Catholic American of polish descent, who do I turn to for cash, considering the plight my "people" went through? How do I sue the Roman Empire or the Third Reich? If we really care about the descendants of the oppressed, than we should promote reparations for all? It's just silly.
It's also destructive. At a time when race relations, at least in this country, have never been better, it's irresponsible to continue to bait one side against the other.
My kids never owned slaves, they do not have any racial prejudice, and they shouldn't be punished for something that someone did 150 years ago.

The concept behind this is pure nonsense. It makes a number of false assumptions, the first glaring one is that raparations would be paid by the government, not individuals. I wonder where the writer thinks the government gets its money? Stupid beyopnd belief. The rest of the concept is just as nonsensical. What is proposed is to force one group of people who had nothing to do with slavery to give money to another group of peple who were never slaves and had nothing to do with it either. The time for any recompense should have been before 1870. Everyone who was involved in any way is long dead. Slavery was an accepted institution in the early days of the United States. To try to drag today's standards back to the late 1700s and early 1800s in order to make a case is an irrelevant and invalid attempt to conjure up a position that has no bearing on anything today. To even suggest that over 130 years later this is a valid proposition is laughable. This is nothing more than a lawyer fantasy: to generate huge legal fees by deluding people who have no legal standing in the matter into thinking they can get money from other who were not even born and had nothing to do with the issue at all.

It should not be hate that you receive; it should be pity.

I am not guilty of participating in slavery, therefore I owe them nothing! You, my friend, are known as a Reverse Racist.
And while you are paying everyone, make sure you pay back every country our forefathers have ever harmed. Study the History Books. If you are going to pay reparation to one group, you will have to do it for a buch more. It's a slippery slope you are going down.

I agree with Kitten. I did not enslave anyone and neither did anyone in my ancestry (I am a Cherokee descendant). If the people in question can prove that they are descendants of an actual slave then sure, give them the money that they are owed but NOT from my taxes. If you can trace it then go ahead if not then dont blame me for atrocities that were not committed in my name.

Do you expect people to ignore that it is a very emotional issue and causes some people to react emotionally because you have similar skin tone to them?
