Yes, it is true and it known as "cycling" or "synchronizing".
Here are some websites about it:
This first link is from Dr Martha McClintock of the University of Chicago who did research on the study.

I think it is true...one time, me and my friend spent some time together and her period came on a day earlier than expected. Now mine wasn't due for another 3 or 4 days but sure enough, as soon as I got home mine came on too. I think it may have been a coincidence, but if it is true, maybe it's caused by the fluctuations our hormones around each other, thereby triggering our hormones to react with the homeostasis of the menstruating woman...but like I said, there's no actually proof behind this

Yes, my best friend and I used to have or periods at different times of the month ( when we didn't hang out much). But we have been hanging out almost everyday in the last 7 months, we are now on the exact same day. She starts like an hour before me every month. We actually talked about this yesterday, I don't know how this happened but I know it happened to us.

Yes, it is true. The really funny thing is, scientists didn't realize it happened in humans until 1971, when a college girl piped up at a conference about pheromones causing female mice to ovulate at the same time. They thought she was crazy. She wrote a paper on it and now it's fairly common knowledge. Her name is Martha McClintock.

As to an explanation, I have none but I have experienced this in sports. In volleyball and softball it becomes extremely obvious and not just because you had a bad game :) I feel bad for all of our coaches because they are all men. When our softball coaches got married and now both have kids they became a little more understanding...a little. But yeah, I've definitely noticed that.

i've heard this but it may only be urban legand. there really isnt any physical reason this should occur, and didnt ever happen to me.
on a side note, i work with about 20 girls and almost all of us start our periods within a few days of each other, but its not from it changing to the same time, im on bc so my period dates never change.

This does happen. Maybe a chain reaction when the PMS sets in? Every man I work with will tell you that on certain days of the month it isn't worth his life to hide the chocolate! We outnumber them!!

I have heard of this, but it never happened with me.
My mom, my sister and I always had ours had a different time of the month.
And my daughter and I also have ours a different week of the month. (too bad for my husband, he can't get all the PMS out of the house all at once, lol)

Women are the biggest lying speices on the planet earth. You think they will tell you the truth? I dont think so. Especially, not to a man. You should forget about women telling you the truth on here
