My doctor told me that when you're able to see the heart beat (if you have an early transvaginal ultrasound, but most women don't) then your risk of miscarraige becomes almost nil. I imagine the same would go for hearing it, too. You're almost through your first trimester, so your risk will drop soon anyway.
Isn't it an awesome sound? Like many other things relating to pregnancy/having a baby...indescribable to someone who hasn't experienced it. :)

Hi first off can I say congratulations, I'm a mum of 4, I miscarried at 15 weeks with our first so I say really there's never a safe time as miscarriage can happen at any stage of the pregnancy. In saying that if you look after your self and follow the rules when pregnant you have an excellent chance of a health baby.

usually around 10 weeks the risk of miscarriage decreases considerably. But always be careful. Isn't it exciting the first time you hear the heartbeat?? What's even better is when you go for the ultrasound. Best of luck to you and baby.

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not. There is ALWAYS a risk, but I would say that you are pretty much out of the woods.
Good Luck!

Isn't that the most wonderful site!? I remember the first time I saw my son's heart beating. It really hadn't set in that I was pregnant and there he was, on that screen and I started to cry. I don't think that I will ever forget that moment ever! He is 15 now and growing into a wonderful human being. Congratulations and don't worry about such things. You will do just fine.

Congratulations! My hubby cried the first time we heard our baby's heartbeat.
I wouldn't concern yourself with miscarriage. Problems can occur in any situation in life but the best thing to focus on is the great amazing things that are going on right now! Surround yourself and baby with positive energy and good nutrition and exercise - that's the best thing you can do for both of you!
I've gathered 12 weeks there is definetley a sharp decline in miscarriages, so i would say you're out of the red zone :)

Awesome on hearing the heartbeat, but I just read your other question & I would be very careful. Sounds like you have a high risk pregnancy. I was stuck on the couch for 7 months out of mine. It sucked, I felt like I was gonna go crazy, but I have a beautiful, sweet 4 year old & it was worth every lazy moment !!!!

Unfortunately your risk of miscarriage isn't completely reduced. Most often it happens in the first 6 weeks though. Congratulations and Good Luck. :)

Did you cry?
I cried the 1st time I heard my babies heartbeat.
NO! I'm sorry it doesn't mean you have less chance of miscarriage other then the fact you know it's alive.
Miscarriages stink!
Just keep on going and you'll be good.
☺
Good Luck
