The fact is the Confederate flag was first used as a battle flag during the civil war it was a symbol for pride of the south. In the 1960's however the flag was used in a derogatory manner to pretty mush bash African Americans during the civil rights movement, people would wave the flag and shout racial slurs to African Americans.......Now days you get those people who want to use the flag to show their pride of the south but of course you will find those idiots (here in pa we have the dumb hicks who ride around in their pickup trucks waving the Confederate flag and the funny thing most of these idiots never even been to the south, have ancestors from the south or can even name one general in the civil war.) My point is dont be bothered by their ignorance simply look the other way as if that flag has absolutely no meaning to you if you let it get to you then pretty much your letting those ignorant ones get the best of you and no flag should be able to do that.........To me the flag only has meaning if you let it to me its just another flag.....

First, the stars and bars is not the confederate flag, it is a battle flag. The Confederacy had several different flags.
Only those of you who believe the lies put forth by such people as Harriot Beecher Stow in her book Uncle Tom's Cabin would make a statement like you made.
Almost all of the blacks during the slave days of the south were very well taken care of. Only those who were caught stealing or doing some other ilegal thing were punished and were the ones that ran away.
In actuallity the slave camps in the north that were used for breeding and brought in from Africa were treated much worse than those of the south ever were. Even today there is much more racial hatred in the north than in the south.
Slaves were expensive and they were expensive to take care of. Let me ask you this, if you own an automobile, would you take a slege hammer and beat it to pieces? I think not, yet that is what a slave cost by comparison and inflation of today.
Was slavery right? No, it wasn't and slavery was starting to die out in the south with the invention of the cotton gin and better equipment to work the soil. It was becoming so that the slaves were only needed to pick the cotton so instead of many hundereds of slaves the plantation owner could do with only a few. Cotton was picked by hand up until the 1950's when the mechanical cotton picker started coming into use. Today almost all cotton is picked by machine, driven by one man who's grandparents picked by hand.
I have personally picked much cotton by hand and by machine. I know of what I say. And the only "mistreated" slaves were the untrustworthy ones and those who committed a crime. So lets not make anymore false statements like the one you made here.

YOU SAID---I still see these pride not predjudice signs from these people who swear their not racist. But if I was to have pride in an era that allowed for black people to kill, rape, and legally castrate white people would I be a little racist? BUT I NEVER SWORE THAT I WASNT RACIST

This flag has nothing to do with African Americans or racism, it was used during the Civil War for the Confederate Army. Just because .08 of Confederates actually owned slaves liberals and others seem to think it has a racist element. Of course, white people are not allowed to be proud of there heritage in America, because its racist.

The American Civil War was a turning point for this country, much like the War of 1812, the two World Wars, and Vietnam. The Confederacy has always been looked upon by some as patriots of individual rights, fighting against Socialism and central government rule. Granted, the racism has always been there before the Civil War, but for some the South was an innocent place of old fashioned values and quiet moments. Course, it was all bunk.

The Rebel flag commonly referred to as the "Confederate flag" was actually the battle flag of the Confederacy during the Civil War. It did not stand for the nation of the Confederacy or its policies or reasons for seceding or fighting. It stood for bravery, independence, and strong will in the face of what was seen as an overpowerful government.
It did never and does not to this day stand for slavery or the oppression of anyone. It is currently used as a symbol of regional cultural pride.
Why do people think that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People isn't a racist organization? Advancement at what cost? Advancement over whom? Isn't it inherently discriminatory to fight for the betterment of a particular people at the potential expense of everyone else? How about we form the National Association for the Advancement of Talented People and only promote those who are worthy of being promoted instead of everyone in a particular group for no logical reason?
Just a thought...

It is a symbol of racism. If its a battle flag, what was the battle that it represents. Well this battle was for the right to hold human beings as slaves It was for the right for the majority to do anything it wants to the minority. It was for the state to hold humans in bondage(LIKE SADDAM HUSEIN). Well if its a battle flag, then thats the battle. Anyone who displays it says he hates America. Every man and women who died for the constitution is belittled by it .
Just a note: Who do you think has more statues in his honor than any other american. George Washington? Abe Lincoln?
Answer Robert E Lee a man who tried to destroy America and a traitor.

It is just something else for you and the rest of your "kind" to complain about !! The kkk"s use of the flag brings shame to it, I do agree. When people see it that is usually what comes to mind. It should not be a symbol of racism because it is not. It is a symbol of southern heritage just like Malcolm X is part of your heritage. You love your X and I will love Mine !!!

I live in Arkansas and if the confederate flag is not a symbol of racism, it would greatly disappoint the people who fly it. Pray for them...

I agree with you. I don't get it. Maybe it depends on where you grew up. Some of the answers here are very interesting and diverse. I just don't understand why some of you think the way that you do.
