Well I think if you are a divorced mother, or a widowed mother you should simpy say so and refer to yourself that way. Otherwise you'll be lumped in as another unmarried statistic.

I have been a married mother, a divorced-single mother, a re-married mother and a stepmother. No job I have ever had was as hard as being a "single mother." It is not always the woman's fault she is single. Sometimes men just walk away or never live up to their responsibilities. I realize what you are saying. I truly do, but really and truly people who have never walked in the shoes of a single mom have no idea how hard it is. If a single woman is just having one kid right after another that is just wrong, wrong, wrong and she deserves to be looked at in a different light than other single moms. However, all single, unwed mothers do not deserve to be categorized with the women who have children to gain more benefits or child support. Unless their situation is known it is just not right to stereotype.

what is so bad about being a single mother? I don't feel it's nonsense at all. Neither do my 3 kids. What do you mean by nonsense? Lose Mores. You mean women who have kids and haven't been married. So you like someone enough to have sex with them, a basic human need, but not enough to commit the rest of your life to them. Therefore you believe that they have no Morales? I think they have more Morales than people who get married for the wrong reason just because some people think it's the right thing to do. And just because a woman is not married it does not mean that tax payers are paying the bill. Some of us actually have jobs. Yea, can you believe that, we work hard too.

Why is being a single mom (not a widowed or divorced mom) such a horrible thing? It doesn't mean you're a whore you went sleeping around and suffered the consequences-it just means you were with a man who wouldn't stand up when things got sticky. I believe a child is a gift whether or not you ever had a wedding ring to go with the belly. To abort a child because the man ditched you is horrible-that child is not to blame, and who knows who you're killing. There's potential for greatness there, even without a daddy around. A mother is a mother no matter her marital status-she cries and worries and rejoices just like they do.

As another answerer said, this is not reverse psychology. Reverse psychology is suggesting to someone that they take a certain course of action in anticipation that that will cause them out of contrariness to take a different course of action that the suggester actually DOES want them to take. Every argument has to be taken on its own terms, and I feel as though your examples mix apples and oranges. It's really impossible for me, at least, to answer this question without mentioning them. The second is a totally inane argument, agreed. The first argument is based on a university study in which every homophobic person tested was found to be sexually stimulated by homosexual pornography- and people who hate homosexuals should be made aware of it. It is valid to make inferences about what people are thinking based on what they say. We do it all the time. The validity of the inferences will depend on the experiences of the people making them- sometimes they'll be accurate and sometimes they won't.

I don't understand your problem with single/unwed mothers.I find it offensive.I got pregnant, the father denied it was his and left town.My beautiful little girl was born with heart defects, and passed away this past December,at just 5 months of age.4 of those 5 months she spent in numerous hospitals.
Yes,being a single mother is hard, but when the father leaves town and you have to deal with these kind of medical issues on your own,it's a whole other story. My daughter made me a better person. She was my reason for getting up in the morning.I wouldn't trade my experience for anything in the world. If I did,I would never have gotten to know my little girl.
And to the person who wrote that we are a waste of tax payers money......why don't you go after the people who collect state money just because they are an acholic or can't read or write. Now,that is a waste of tax payers money!! Why give money to someone that can go to school to learn how to read or how to write.Or to someone who can go to AA to recieve help.Giving these people money is just giving them permission to be lazy.
My mother was a single parent who did what she could to raise my sister and I.She was a bad diabetic with numerous other health problems. She was partially blind and had a doctor's note saying she couldn't work. She fought for years to receive SSI,just to be turned down over and over again. She finally was approved....after she had passed away.
The goverment needs to review what people they help, and who they don't.Its people like you that make it harder for people like us.

Hmmm... my friend is a single mother who supports her child all alone, without government assistance. On her $45,000/year salary it's not that hard to do. I know another woman who is divorced and refuses to work, because then her alimony and child support payments from her ex will be cut. Who's the more honorable one???

Well, it's all made up of women who have a child or children by a man who has either died and therefore broke their heart, who didnt love them in the first place and therefore broke their heart or had a relationship with them but eventually broke their heart.

Women need to stop having children outside of marriage. Use protection! Abort! I don't care, but stop taking advantage of good, decent, tax-paying people.
