Hello,

My Wife has been making clothes and selling them on ebay... well people are going nuts over them and she can barely keep up with the demand. We would like to take it to the next level and start a full fledged business. The main problem is being able to produce enough product to meet the demand.

What suggestions as far as starting business does anyone have?

I was thinking of patenting the designs and hiring a clothing manufacturing company to make the clothes but I dont know how much that would cost whether it would be economical to do this. Anyways any help or suggestions would be nice.

Hi,
We're a garment manufacturer based in HK and our factories are in China. Most businesses are now sourcing their goods from this side of the globe. We make clothes from retail wear, accessories like ties, scarves, etc. to uniform items with very good quality and our prices are competitive. We also provide retail garments for well-known brands in the fashion industry. You could check our website, www.theme.com.hk and our parent company's, www.highfashion.com.hk. We can also work with any kind of fabric, plus, we also produce silk fabrics. If you're interested, please feel free to send me a message and we can discuss this possibility further. Hope to hear from you. :)

The clothing industry, as you can well imagine, is a very competitive one. To succeed takes knowledge, patience, talent and a bit of luck. As far as the knowledge bit goes, I found some sources that will assist you further.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have about the clothing industry as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

There's nothing quite like research – the more you know about the clothing industry, the better. There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Also, here are some book titles that may interest you:

* The Official Step-by-Step Guide to Starting a Clothing Line by Jay Arrington,
* The Business of Fashion: Designing, Manufacturing, and Marketing by Leslie Davis Burns
* Fashion for Profit (Revised Edition with Retail Chapter) by Frances Harder
* The Fashion Designer Survival Guide: An Insider's Look at Starting and Running Your Own Fashion Business by Mary Gehlhar

Lastly, you would not patent the designs but rather you would copyright the patterns and/or artwork and trademark the name and/or logo. See below for links.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Establish own business whatever it is better than doing a job under someone. I appreciate your interest. But to do a business you need to have a good amount to run it. As you said you talked to the supplier and they gave you quote. I assume they gave you quote for multiple quantity, not fore a single piece. So you have to buy bulk quantity. I can suggest you not to buy a bulk quantity but buy a few piece. You can offer them a little bit higher price what they offered. So you dont have to invest a lot on those product. And if you want success in a short time you need to promote your product very strongly. It will cost you a lot too. Because the more people will know about your service or product the more you can earn.

Perhaps she should teach a few friends (or just teach hired people) people to make the clothes, and then they get together to make them, making it move faster. I wouldn't suggest hiring a manufactering company until she's really, really moving and is making more money than she's spending.
