This really isn't a dirty question so would appreciate real answers - the beds squeaking when I move even slightly, and is really annoying and preventing a full night's sleep!!!

It's not a trick question, I'm just being dumb. It's not the mattress squeaking - it's the actual metal bed frame. And, Tom, no, doesn't ring a bell...

Oh, and it's not because I'm having sex - majority of the time, when I'm trying to get to sleep, I'm not having sex, I'm trying to sleep....

I empathise. So many beds squeak!! It is a pain.

If it is quite new, you could try to get the manufacturer to fix it.

If not, see if it is fitted together right. If a small adjustment is made, it might make all the difference. It might need some screws tightening (this is NOT a sexual comment)

(I'd need a handy man to do that for me, but maybe you are cool with DIY? If not, your Dad or brother or boyfriend could try to fix it?) (Isn't it weird the way everything about beds gets sexual? Sorry!!

Hope you can sort it out and have a good nights sleep.

If not, try to locate where it is squeaking and apply some oil.

It sounds like the bed springs....you might have to invest in a new one. Or you could try putting the mattress on the floor and dumping the bed? I slept on a mattress for years, it is quite comfy and hygenic (and QUIET!!)

If all else fails, try wearing ear plugs.

Somewhere, there is wood rubbing against wood. Are your connectors the kind with two little sock shaped things on the end of the bed rails that fit into two slots in the head and foot boards? They may not be seating all the way in because they're either misaligned or are mortised in too deep. They're meant to kind of wedge in to the slots so they get progressively tighter and don't wriggle and squeak. They have screws that could be loose, too. Try a longer or thicker wood screw and if the plates are too deep to allow a snug fit, shim them out a little with a piece of cardboard like you'd find on the back of note pad. Not sure what your mattress is sitting on, but if it's a box spring or platform that rests on cleats around the rails, and head & foot boards, then the cleats could be loose and causing the squeak. Tighten the screws that are holding them to the sides and if they still make noise, add some glue to them and retighten. I'm not sure how your bed can have no metal, though if the rails really do just slide in to the headboard, then maybe you need to tap wooden shims into the joints from the inside to wedge them tighter. If tightening doesn't work, or work well enough, try waxing the connections so they stop squeaking, but that will only treat the symptom, not the disease. Something is loose and you have to tighten it. You can always screw some heavy "L" brackets around the frame on the inside and see if that stiffens the whole thing up. If the bed is old, the joints may have shrunk to the point where they're no longer tight and that may be what's causing the whole problem. Try some wedges because that will only cost a buck or two and while you're at the home center, buy a couple of packages of decent sized corner brackets to try to add some structure to the thing. Hope that helps, I may have missed the mark entirely, but I tried to cover all the possibilities I could think of.

Bed Squeaking

Another light sleeper! Squeeky beds... If the bed is on a frame, it's probably the frame that is making the noise. Get rid of the frame and the noise will most likely be gone too. Tighten every single screw and joint on the frame and/or replace all screws/bolts.

Noise comes from movement, if the frame is tight, the movements should stop. Loose bed slats can also slide and make noise, so nail those in place.

If you opt to put the mattress and box springs directly onto the floor (that's how I put mine as the noises of a frame keep me awake), there shouldn't be noise. If there is, you most likely have a problem in the springs inside the spring box, and the only way to fix that is to remove the cover under the box springs and look to see where the noise is coming from. Springs are tied together and sometimes the twine breaks.

If you are a heavy person, just body weight can be too much for some mattress sets. Buy a top of the line, expensive bed set made for heavier people. Or, buy a latex type mattress set which has no metal or wood that could squeek.

Hope this helps.

The cure depends on the type of bed-frame you have.
if it is a wooden frame that has wooden slats across the frame then you could try dusting the points where the slats contact the frame with talcum powder,
If this does not cure the problem try checking whether the frame joints have come loose and need to be re-tightened, again if they are the sort that are bolted together then a small dusting of talcum powder in the joints before reassembling them will stop the noise, but if they were originally of a glued construction then you will need to take the joints apart and re-glue them,(this is a long job and needs to be done with some expertise)
If the bed is one of the new fangled metal framed jobs then perhaps a good place to start is with a quick spray of WD40 or equivalent into the joint areas and then check that the bolts are tightened properly.
hope that this helps you to get a good nights sleep.

If your bed has slats or wooden supports they are probably out of place or have absorbed humidity and expanded. Try moving the slat if you have them, if squeaking continues you may need to remove them and either sand them on the ends or replace them. If you have a metal frame bed then try taking it apart and with a cleaner that won't cause rust clean the areas of contact/ joints and tighten the frame more than it was when you took it apart.

its where the metal joins where its bolted together,i had the same problem with mine oiling doesn't work and its messy i got some foam the kind you use in seat padding and loosened the bolts put the bolt through the foam then some more foam where the 2 metal bars join(hope you understand where i mean?) screw it back in and my bed don't squeak no more,i had many sleepless night through the bed squeaking, good luck! (you can get the foam in any sewing shop of upholstery shops and it pretty cheap ,you only need a little on each screw. hope it works for you! sweet dreams.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/WoodworkingTechniques
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.
