Do you have a tall ceiling in you shop?
If you do then make use of a tenoning jig.

most table saws have a sliding miter Gage that runs along a grove in the table remove the fence and set the miter to 45deg and slide it through the blade it will cut a nice 45 then repeat with the next piece i like to drill a dowel in the center of both angles and use a hard wood dowel to center/ and strengthen the joint and you will not see a fastener...you can use biscuits also along the miter..if you don't have a miter slide with your fence you can then try using a speed square to hold the piece at 45 and slide it along the top of the rip fence as a 45deg jig ....good luck

usaully the board would be tapered from one inch to 0 over a length of 12 inches. i think you use 1/8" for increments and taper from that, a band saw will work, but a atble saw will not go high enough to cut it. try doing a taper cut and flip the wood over , good luck
