My daughter is ten months old. She has a boil on her bottom. It is really hurting her. The nurse at her drs office said to give it a few days. Is there anything I can do to make it go away faster?

I have tried the egg thing and it had not helped. Was thinking of trying a potato, it is supposed to help draw out infection. How would I know if it is MRSA? Don't worry ... I will not pop it! It is very red and swollen, warm and it hurts her to sit on it or for me to hold her.

Well, soaking in warm water works for older people. Not sure about a baby. Maybe you should see another Dr. They should be able to do SOMETHING to help the little baby girl. Those are painful.. :(

I feel for you and her. I currently went through the same situation and to be honest, I am very surprised at what you were told by the nurse. I have developed 17 so far and my 3 year old daughter developed one on her bottom and I kept it clean and put antibotic ointment. But then before the first one went away she developed 6 more after that. I went back to the doctor with her and they gave her sulfamethoxazole w/tmp susphit. I have no idea how to say it but it worked and it was given according to her weight. Beings your child is so young they may not let you give her this kind of medication. So here are pointers, make sure the area stays clean. Putting a piece of gauze with anit cream will help it to stay clean. When you change her diaper change the gauze. It's been known that heat draws the head to the surface and it does. I recommend bathing her in a little bit warmer water than usual but not enough to make her skin turn red. Then you'll know it is too hot. Allow her to play until she can't play anymore in the water. The longer the heat stays on the boil the better. If you should decide to try and pop it, which remember will be painful for her, pull the boil apart don't push it together. When you pull a boil or pimple apart it forces the infection to come out. When you push it together you take a chance of reversing the pop and could go inside instead of out. You should also wear gloves when treating her and wash your hands afterwards. Yes it very contagious. A boil can be popped when a white head has formed but not any sooner than that. Doctors say you shouldn't pop it cause you stand a chance of spreading the infection, which is true, but when it does pop it lifts the pain and pressure alot. Other than what I just said besides going to the doctor I don't have more to tell you. Good luck and I hope this matter clears up fast. There is indeed a medication that can be bought over the counter but it burns the skin. I did not use it on my daughter but I did on myself. I now have 4 scars on my legs and when the medication is on it does really burn.

Go to the drugstore and ask the pharmacist for Domeboro's powder. Tell him how old she is, but I'm 99% sure it's ok for anyone. You make a bath with the powder and sit her in it. It helps dry and 'draw' out the boil. It should burst on it's own and you can cover it with a soft gauze pad before applying a fresh diaper. An antibiotic ointment should be applied once it has burst.
You should follow the directions or your pharmacist's advice. Or in the event you can't go to the drugstore, use hot (as she can stand) washclothes on it or sit her in hot water.

Yes the mebrane of an egg. This is the thin film inside the egg shell. peel it off and put it on the boil this will help bring it to a head. A boil is an infection so I recommend having the doctor look at her to make sure it isnt an idication of a more serious problem. Boilds can be painful so you can put a topical anesthetic like bioileze on it to make her more comfortable. I hope this is helpful and happy fathers day DAD
Dont pop it POP please

There is something you can buy that draws the puss out of boils...I forgot the name though...it has a tar base in it I think, found in pharmacies...other than that you can apply a hot/warm wash cloth to the area for a while/as long as she can stand it without being uncomfortable...this might help comfort her somewhat...but just don't try to lance it open yourself though...you don't want her to get a staph infection

Call a pharmacist I believe that there is a cream called "boil eez" That is supposed to help shrink the boil.
Whatever you do, don't squeeze it, it will irritate it even more and it can even cause infection to spread.

In order to diagnose MRSA you would need a culture. And in order to get that they will have to lance the boil.I can't believe the nurse told you that.Apply warm wet compresses to it.Give her Tylenol for the pain and take her back to the doc and demand TX.

Maybe you should see a dermatologist right away and maybe, he/she could tell you the best thing for it. With my experience with my dad Regranx worked really good but it's only avalible by prescription. That seemed to work the best

There is an old remedy my mother used to use. Take a piece of bread and soak it in milk and apply with gauze and tape. It will take a couple applications but it does work.
