The vaginal discharge after delivery can last 4-6 weeks. The first week or so is like a heavy period, but gets less in amount and darker in color as time goes on.
Any time after the discharge stops completely, you can start your period again. If you're breastfeeding full time, you may not have a period for several weeks or more - BUT remember, you can get pregnant BEFORE you have that first period, so plan what you want to do about birth control, and use it.
You want time to enjoy this baby, and your body needs time to heal before you get pregnant again.

It can. After my baby it lasted maybe 2 or 3 weeks. But then I would have a period on and off with no rhyme or reason until the DR put me back on the pill. Each woman is a little different before, during, and after.

Unfortunately, yes. it can last up to 6-8 weeks, with the first few weeks being VERY heavy. I have a 9 year old and a 6 month old, and mine lasted 6-7 weeks with both.

Yes, well...it can be. It depends on the woman. My best friend bled for like 2 months, and i only lasted a few weeks. It depends on the woman and how much time her body needs to cope with growing and then expelling another human being.

Technically, it's not a period. It's your body shedding the lining of the uterus that built up to noursish the baby. How long it lasts varies from woman to woman, but a few weeks is about normal.

Are you talking about the bleeding you experience immediately after giving birth? If so, yes, that can last a few weeks.
