Call the circulation department of your local paper. Don't overlook community papers either- like those that only publish once a week.

I just realized you said a "summer" job. Paper routes are not summer jobs. They are regular jobs. Some papers won't hire kids because they want adults who can drive and take bigger routes- and be held to contracts. Still, give it a shot.

Since you are 14, you are limited. An adult can get a route anywhere. You need one near your home. You'll need to find out if they will bring the papers to your home, or if you need to go get them.

I have had routes both as a teen and as an adult. It is decent money- you won't get rich, but you can make a honest living and learn a great deal about responsibility.

In many ways, it is like a small business. You "buy" the papers from the newspaper, then sell them at a profit. You don't pay for them up front, and many subscribers pay the paper directly...but I think you understand what I am saying.

Your product is also SERVICE. if someone wants their paper in a certain place, that is where you put it. Every day . No matter what.
If you are lucky, they will remember this and tip you well.

Some warnings....if this is a morning paper, you are responsible to deliver those papers on time- usually 6am EVERY DAY. That means if the presses break, or the papers get to you late for any reason, you need to deliver them before school.

Afternoon papers are great....you can deliver them right after school. If you are delivering on foot or bike, the route wouldn't be huge.

Remember- this would be YOUR job. You shouldn't ask your parents to drive you around. The only exception is late paper delivery or pouring rain. Then you should pay them for their gas and time.

I once had a paper route. First of all, go to your local newspaper office to find a route. I suggest that you find a route that is as to near your home as possible. Look in the local paper, they are always advertising.

When I had my route several years ago, I deliver newspapers and collect payments. Things may change so you don't have to collect payments but it varies for different areas.

If you want to deliver newspapers, you have to be careful. You have to deliver the newspapers no matter what, weather or anything else. Newspapers also weighs a lot, my shoulder hurts because I wear a sling pack. You have to make sure you deliver the right houses, some don't get newspapers and if you miss any,you will know. You could be bitten by a dog or hit by a car. Did you talk to your parents about the paper route?

Also, there are not very many job options for a 14 year old. I suggest helping out with the lawn like mowing grass, pulling weeds, maybe you could help take care of pets or raise and sell earthworms.

I hope this helps.

Well, are you willing to get up early in the morning (3-4 AM) to deliver the papers?? The best way to find out what routes are available is to contact your local newspaper & ask the circulation department about route openings. Basically what you do, depending on the route is deliver the papers to patrons, collect fees due and note any changes as for subscriptions. Also you will have to figure out how to deliver the papers (foot, bike, etc.)?

call your close by paper and note in the journey that they are hiring paper boy/females.. locate out what the direction is.. start up including your position city paper and be particular to allow your moms and dads comprehend what your plan is in order to supervise you in the course of the early morning or afternoon of your direction.. also you are able to go back and forth with different young ones to get your direction executed.... yet first see what your close by papers are and then call them up and inquire.
