I have a 10 year old Crown Vic. It has 154,000 miles on it. I am getting around 24 miles per gallon, week after week. Is that pretty good for a larger car? A/C doesn't work so that probably helps some, right?

You know, I am amazed...I check the oil once a week or so and it still used only about a half a quart like it did when I got it years ago........and I drive 4,00-5,000 between oil changes (I use a special high mileage oil).

yeah,,that is really good mileage, you probably got a car that was well maintained, before you got it,i have heard a lot of stories from my customer,s that sound like your,s.I have seen some that said they got around 30 on the highway, and believe it or not, these were all higher mileage vehicles,it is a common fact that higher mileage vehicles, often make good reliable transportation,so enjoy it,i know people with 4-cylinder cars that don't get that much.

You are extremely fortunate to be getting that kind of gas mileage. I used to have a Crown Vic. at one time, and I was lucky to get 18-19 mpg. As for the A/C, it may not affect your gas mileage that much as most cars are more airo-dynamic with the windows rolled up, as would be the case if you were using your A/C. If you should decide to get the A/C fixed, have it retrofitted from R-12 to R-134 as R-12 is a very expensive refrigerant to buy.

Mythbusters recently busted the myth about not using ac in a car to gain better mileage...

honestly the 24 sounds pretty good...remember the "listed" miles you are supposed to get are not subject to any government tests so basically the car companies can put what they like on the car...to pass the mandates.

remember to check oil, tire pressure every month and that will help your mpg's.
