Drew M is correct and anyone claiming you need stuff like psychology, criminal justice, or government is mistaken. The F.B.I. wants mature professionals who have at least a bachelors degree and have worked a few years in their field: business, science, etc. The typical age for starting agents is late 20's. Meanwhile, the C.I.A. wants experts in most anything - from agriculture to zoology. And, yes, foreign languages are essential. Study a Middle Eastern language and become fluent in it and you'll have your pick of jobs with the government.

I was a Criminology & Criminal Justice major in University. I recommend NOT being one of those. Anyone can get a degree in that field. Ask anyone in the FBI or CIA and that degree is not needed! It depends on which field you are most interested in. The CIA is desperate for translators in Middle-Eastern languages - so if you could find an university that offers non-typical foreign languages that would be great. Any Science related field would be helpful, too. Whatever you do you should at least minor in one foreign language (if not non-typical the Spanish). What the FBI and CIA are looking for are people who excelle in their field - whatever that field is. Don't bother going into Criminology - it's a waist! I recommend also checking out the websites for both CIA and FBI. They have employement information and it will say what kind of educational background they are looking for. (I can garentee none will say Criminal Justice). After all, you can always take a few political courses as electives!

Learning multiple languages will make you a desireable candidate for the FBI or the CIA. I suggest going to the following website and looking at what type of career path you would like to look at within the FBI. No matter what you want to do, it is important to know several languages. You wil automatically be highly valued and sought after.

I have a polisci prof who wanted to join the CIA and her major was (obviously) polisci. She also double-majored in Russian (for obvious reasons). Criminal justice would probably also be a good choice. I would suggest going to the FBI and CIA websites; they would probably be a good source of info.

International relations or government are the best but also psychology, pre-law, criminal justice, and forensics
It really depends on what job you want within these organizations.
