Masturbation is... SAFE! Why would someone wanna try to brainwash his/her child that it is wrong when it really isn't? I think it's better for my son to masturbate than taking the risk of getting a girl pregnant or getting an STD.

Parents sometimes have a hard time dealing with the fact that their child is growing up. A teen or tween masturbating is exploring his or her sexuality. My mom was against it and I knew that. It just wasn't acceptable or even talked about. Masturbation, for me just seemed normal and a good way to explore my body. I am now married and I still do on occasion (I'm very satisfied sexually) but sometimes I just need to refresh my feelings of my own sexuality. Now that I have a 4 year old daughter, I want to be open about these things when she gets older and let her know its natural, as long as she does it in the privacy of her own room or own bathroom.
My mom was raised in a very strict catholic household and believed it was wrong to maturbate.

If you prefer your teens to have sex, then by all means, don't let them masturbate. Masturbation is a way for teens to release some sexual pressure so they're not engaging in any kind of sexual activity with the same/opposite sex. So, this means, just let them masturbate. It is completely normal and very healthy. Maybe you have a problem with it because you're ashamed you do it yourself. Here's some advice, don't be. It's, like I said, normal and healthy to do it.

Masterbation is a healthy and normal thing. By 'banning it' or making it out to be a dirty thing, teens will either rebel and do it in public or be ridiculously open about it, or they will never come to terms with what healthy sexuality is.
Telling children lies that they will grow hair on their palms or lose their eyesight, or just discouraging it in general will not deter them from doing it - they will just do it in their sleep. What are you going to do? Tie down their hands? And what happens when they start having wet dreams (both boys and girls) in their sleep? They will be so ashamed and disgusted with themselves over something that is COMPLETELY normal!
Embrace that your child is and is going to be a sexual being. Obviously put limits on what they do with the opposite sex and teach them that doing it in public or at school or talking about it are not appropriate, but I'm telling you, banning it or making it out to be disgusting, dirty, unhealthy and abnormal is going to do far more harm than good.
MOST OF ALL, ask yourself WHY you are so strongly against it. Obviously parents don't want to think about their kids as sexual beings or people who masterbate - much in the same way they don't want to think about their parents having sex; but fact remains, they're going to do it - it's your responsibility to ensure that they know that no matter what, you will love them, that you support them, that they are normal, that they aren't disgusting and that masterbation is not a sin.

Masterbation is a natural, normal occurance. Curosity gets the best of the kids/teens. Don't discourage but be open to sexual questions if they have them, and don't judge the child either, that could seriously hurt their self esteem

Ok, why would you want to discourage it? Where is it "traditional" that teens be discouraged from a natural self exploration?
Another point:
If your 16 year old daughter is not touching herself, most likely someone else is.

Being a parent, I am not opposed to masturbation, I am opposed to public masturbation. In discussions with my children I told them masturbation was a private act, if they had the need, they needed to go to their room.

I think it's natural and you would probly only make them want to do it more by discouraging it. J ust make sure they know it is a private thing not to be done in public!

Masturbation is normal. Some of my friends are doing it, and it is okay! What is wrong with it? Would you preffer your child to have sex? I think that it is okay.
