If a boat dumped you in the middle of the ocean, and you had no assurance that a rescue was being mounted, you'd probably fall into despair and quickly drown. However, if the people who stranded you said, "If you can tread water until Friday, a patrol boat will pick you and and bring you to safety".

You'd survive until Friday, wouldn't you?

No way you can do that; we are doing better there each and every day. Set a timeline and the terrorist will use it as a means to victory. They will gear up to attack heavy in the weeks ahead of the deadline to try and convince the media, Iraqi people and others we're running in defeat. Its not happening. They are losing;

No because the bad guys will just wait until we tell them we are leaving to strike it all up again. They will plan on that date to come back hard. They need to be eliminated/stopped before we pull out.

Don't misunderstand me. I want our men/women back as soon as possible, but if we leave too soon, all the lives lost so far will have been in vane.
