OK i have had my period for about a year now, and i am SICK and TIRED of having to wear those sticky, groose pads. Now im not trying to be mean or anything, but i just dont want to hear stuff like, "well, talk to your mom, or maybe ur too young." i really want to wear tampons, really bad. and my mom only has the ones that dont have the easy plastic applicator (WAY easier to get in). So i talked to my friend and she wears them and stuff, so she gave me one of her easy-to-slide-in ones. I'm gunna have to use it, cause i was just started my period and in less then a week i am going to a HUGE family reunion at my cousins lake. and i am not gunna sit out of water ALL day, cause im on my period. So im gunna have to use it. Any help? I'm kind of scared to it, but not really. and its not something id tell my mom, cause she says that im too young to be wearing them, but whatever. im gunna use them sooner or later, cause wearing thongs when older, duh! ANy Advice???

i have to agree with you- pads feel disgusting. you might as well be wearing a diaper as far as I'm concerned!

I'm only 16, Ive been using tampons for about a year and a half (i started my period when i was 14). the only reason i started was because i was on vacation with my cousins and i started my period and they wanted me to go out into the water with them and everything at the beach. my cousin finally talked me into trying tampons and Ive been using them since, sometimes i forget im wearing them because they are so uncomfortable.

ill get to the point now.-- i was terrified of doing it and trust me, it took me quite a few before i finally got one in right. that one tampon you have may not be enough (assuming you've never tried a tampon before), you may end up having to buy a box of them. all i can say is be patient, relax, read the directions if you need to, and don't stress about it.

i know some people who were able to use them for the first time , no problems.

oh yeah- you might want to start out with a slim one, i know that it helped me alot.

good luck. i think maybe you should be honest with your mom about it. if you are more comfortable with tampons then that it was she should allow you to use.

hope i helped.

I don't mean to undermine your mom, but no one is too young to wear tampons, I started when was 13 and will never wear those diaper like things again unless I absolutely have to. Just follow the directions in the box. If you only have one and you need to know how to use one, go to the link below and you will find some help there. Don't worry, tell your mom that you have read that women and girls of all ages can use tampons, it doesn't mean that you have lost your virginity. Tell her pads make you feel dirty and disgusting and you would like to try using tampons because they are cleaner. If you are an active person, an even better reason to use tampons is because you can move so freely. Try them out and you will never go back to pads. If it feels a little uncomfortable, you don't have it in all the way, you should not feel it, keep trying till you get the hang of it, you'll know when you have it right!!!

If you do ask your mom to get them and she won't, then ask someone else to get them for you like an aunt or a friend's mom. They'll understand. Or just ask your mom for some money and get some yourself next time you're at a store. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to wear them at any age. If you're body thinks it's old enough to bleed, then you're old enough to use tampons while you swim. Just make sure you use them strictly by the directions and read all the warnings. Wearing one too long without changing it can cause TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). It's when the waste that your body is trying to get rid of stays in there too long and poisons you. Trust me, I've had it twice, and you don't want it. It can kill you if it's not treated. Good luck with convincing your mom.

It took me years to get up the courage to use a tampon, so I know exactly how you feel! I am very small and have a hard time with insertion, so I use Playtex Slimfits. They are perfect for the first-timer. They have a plastic applicator that goes in very easily, and they are small, so they stay put and you can't feel them at all. I find the easiest way is to sit on the toilet and lean forward, as odd as that sounds, but you get a good angle from there. Make sure the applicator is well lubricated, and you shouldn't feel a thing. You'll do fine, and love a pad-free life!

Your question takes me back to being 14 again! I had a constant battle with my mom over the use of tampons. She wouldn't allow it. She said she didn't want me to get "used to" having something inside me --that STILL grosses me out-- but "mother" issues aside... It's YOUR body and the sooner you assert control, the happier you will be. I solved the problem by buying my own. I actually tried to fake her out for a few months, and left rolled up, unused napkins, covered w/ toilet paper in the trash, because I was pretty sure she was "checking". But, after awhile, I just stopped and was using tampons full time. I started w/ OB because there was no applicator to dispose of, and I thought it was less obvious that I switched to tampons. She was so hung up, she really never confronted me about it. So, now you have something to spend your allowance on. As you will learn, tampons are a highly personal choice. You may have to try out a few to find one you like. Good luck.

Ew thongs... you're going to pay to get a wedgie? Well, to each their own.

To me the ones without an applicator are easier, because I always have to make adjustments afterward anyhow. It helps to be willing to stick your fingers in there, I know it takes most girls a few years to be able to do that. After you've pushed a kid or two out of there, shyness about that spot is pretty futile. The best piece of advice I have is to make sure your string is tucked in so it doesn't slip out of the bathing suit! And, if you notice it in any way, it's in wrong. You shouldn't be able to feel it. My daughter uses them, and she has no problems.

ah, the famous tampon fight...my mother and i had this fight for years. i understand both sides of things though. i'm not trying to undermine her, but i dont think theres anything wrong with you using tampons. i just think you need to make sure that you read the directions on the box ( i know you think you know how, but they sometimes offer tips on how to make it easier ). well, anyway, hope everything goes well!! good luck!!

oh, and, if you want to help save the enviornment some, use the cardboard tampons. theyve just started making those with the easy insert tops...just a thought...

just wear them (the tampons), make sure the string isnt going to fall out of your bikini when your in water cos that may be a bit embarressing. i may be a guy and all but they seem to look more uncomfortable... neways you decide on that.

look, use whatever you use more comfortable because the more uncomforatble u are, the more you will be uncomfortable lol.

there are tampons specifically geared for teens ....there are instructions on the box how to insert them ....but maybe if you bought the teen tampons and showed them to ur mother(that there are tampons for teens) maybe she would relax a lil on the issue and she could help you feel comfortable using the tampons..good luck

Well the only way you'll find out if they work for you is using them.
