Did your sound ever work? Either there is a hardware part missing which is possible if your sound never worked. Or you are missing the drivers which is more likely which can cause you to loose your sound. Try to find the drivers from either the install disks or the Internet.

Go to start, run, type "winmsd", click ok, go under components, sound devices and it should tell you what kind of sound card you have. Download or update the drivers for it. Another way is to right click your computer, go to hardware, device manager, sound, and you should see what kind of sound card you have, download the drivers or update them.
