It depends on the laptop.
I have a brand new Dell and mine will charge compeletly in less than an hour, and it has about a 3 hour life on it.
But once again, it depends.

look in the laptop manual it should say,..probably there will be a light that will light on/off when it's ready to let you know,also probably overnight charge while you sleep will do,for you as for your laptop :)
