That's a pretty uneducated and illogical question.

The main problem with your argument is that you make it from a personal perspective, which is obviously laden with vitriol and contempt, rather than a standpoint where you offer even a vague detail, not to mention a hint of statistics.

They have found that "worldy" education has not brought the fulfillment that they thought. Not only are they seeking God, they also tend towards regimented/orthodox religions. I guess they figure that if they are going to go through it, they are going to be very serious about it.
In addition, I think that education is part and parcel of the Islamic faith. "Be all that you can be" philosophy.
