A very good question! Actually, that is about it, but local judges are voted into office by the people not assigned by a governor.

Depends on the type of judge. Some are elected at the municipal level and some are appointed at the state and federal level. The appointments are political to an extent. So your statement is somewhat true and false.

Judges are elected in Texas. They are politicians same as all other politicians. Exception being they don't have to offer a solution for all of society's problems.

JP's (small claims/traffic court judges) don't have to be lawyers.
