Torsion (spiral process of gastropods) can happen in either direction, but most are counterclockwise. They compare these kinds of snails by calling them either left or right handed snails! i.e. the Laksmi conch is a left handed conch.

They don't always. It's like being right handed or left handed, most people just tend to be right handed.

There is a crab that has a tool for open up shells, but it only has it on one claw. This is fine since most shells grow counter-clockwise, but when it encouters a shell that is clockwise, it tosses it immediately.

who said so? It depends on the way you look at it. Turn it around and it's seen to grow clockwise.
