You probably have your own source of inspiration ..it could be a person, a thing, anything/anyone that drives you, and makes you look forward to each and every new day...what if you had to turn away and give it up (for whatever reason)?

The missing link here is that the source of inspiration is not only a blessing but a curse (and yes makes you miserable at times). But overarching benefits far outweigh the darkner elements of it. At present you are forced to give it up, its not negotiable. How do you cope with that?

It can be a great reality check when heroes and mentors die. Not literally. But when they disappoint us or fall from their original grace. I have had many mentors that are no longer my mentors. It is true that we are sometimes attracted to them for less than noble reasons. But we move on. This part of life. If life is like a book, then there are many pages yet to turn. Staying on the same page can be nice for some, but impossible for others. It could also be that familiarity breeds contempt. This is a particularly common problem amongst brilliant minds.

I've had to do it a few times in my life. Growing up and leaving home made me find an entirely new set of things to inspire me. Then I married and my family was my inspiration. A divorce put that to bed but I still had the kids. Then they grew up and I found another man to love. He left after a few years.
Through most of this was my career, and it has been a real inspiration for me. Now that is ending as well. But I have done this so often that I understand that it is simply another change and another inspiration will come along soon. It can be extremely painful to decided to close the door on whatever we are focusing on, but it reaches a point where you know that you have to make a choice, and you simply do it.

Inspiration is not something you turn off or on. Inspiration is the little something that is deep within you which suddenly springs forth in full bloom. To put the source of your inspiration to sleep is the equivalent of mental suicide. Objects or people may offer triggers but they aren't the source. That only comes from within. If you're using objects, then you're using a crutch and not living to your full potential. No one can make you happy but you.

If you had to (and I have had to a few times) it's very painful, but other sources of inspiration do come along. Most recently I had to put my source of inspiration to sleep....if I hadn't she would have suffered. It's not an easy decision but if I had to do it again, I wouldn't change it. She was in pain and it was only going to get worse.

Years ago I lost the one source of inspiration I had looked to since I was a young man. It was a person, a mentor, a strong rock. I thought this person knew everything I wanted to know and lived the way I wanted to live. I held them in very high esteem. All that changed in the course of one conversation and I knew at the end of our talk I would never feel the same about this person. I was left feeling hollow and empty. I was without a leader, I felt lost and without direction. It was horrible.
I recovered by placing all of my faith and desire for guidance in God directly. But I also added another row of bricks to my wall as a defense. I had dared to rely on another person for motivation and inspiration. I had dared to believe in someone with the same potential to fail that I had. In the end I learned a couple of things... 1) All people are fallible. We can't help it. At some point we all will dissappoint those who look to us for guidance.
2) God is not fallible. He is able to motivate and inspire and lead and strengthen and challenge and delegate.
So how can this help in everyday life? I learned to take everything to God. From the most basic needs to the things that mean the most. Relationships and career, big things and small things. Everything. Sometimes a simple quiet prayer on the way into the office is sufficient. Sometimes it's days of fasting and prayer. If we let Him know it's important to us He will provide everything we need. And I know from experience that He is able to make us look good in the eyes of all those we deal with. From the gas station attendant to our supervisor, God will give us favor in their minds. That extra "something" a stranger does for you for no reason. That promotion you didn't expect. The perfect end to a huge project you've put your heart into. God will bless it and others will notice.
It's not guesswork or coincidence, it's just letting God know you trust Him enough to let Him share in your daily life. He wants to be your partner, your confidant. Your mentor, your inspiration. And He will definately represent your best interests in everything you do. He is there to help. You have faith? Let that work for you. You feel close to Him sometimes? Let that love and affection for Him be your secret weapon. He desires to do things for those who love Him. We don't love or serve Him for what He can do for us, He knows that. But when He loves us it pleases Him to help us. Wouldn't a mother or father do everything they could to help a precious and beloved child? Of course! Where does that feeling come from? We have learned it from God. Trust Him and give your burdens and desires over to Him, He will light the path that will lead you to all your hopes and dreams. All of them! All of them!

The greatest honor to your source of inspiration is to "let it go" and live the life that was and is inspired by them. What greater gratitude, how wonderful for them to know that you have the spark to go on, and the fire to live the fullest!

I would find another source of inspiration for myself. That is something you should never be without.

I've done that. I wonder if anything will inspire me again. This is fun but I'm even getting bored of this.
