I have a cat, cutest thing ever;however, I went into a pet store today and I was speaking to the lady there, and she said usually you have two cats. They had kittens there and I was considering adopting another one, but I was swaying more for a puppy....what do yall think? Is is neccessary to have two cats for companionship..or will a dog do?

Well, I have two cats and a dog. They all get along and seem to love each other...I honestly think that if something were to happen to one of them the other two would be sad. If you feel like you are ready for a new pet, a kitten OR a puppy (as long as they are young) should be able to adjust well to you current kitty! If you do get a puppy, make sure you research the breed first to ensure it's not a breed that has a high tendency to "hunt"...he may hurt the kitty!

well my cat has a companion...and they hate each other. every night i can hear them hissing and yowling at each other while one beats up the other. For the most part the house is peacful...because one cat avoids the other. Some cats are good friends but the lady at the pet store failed to tell you cats are NOT pack animals and therefore instinctually prefer to be alone. I don't think a puppy is a good idea either.

It isn't necessary to have two cats. Most cats will actually prefer to have you all to themselves, it's likely your cat will boss the kitten around. It won't like the puppy either I doubt but you get whatever pet you want, the cat won't like it either way... but it will get used to it. My cats hated my dog but they got used to him and now they love him... he's a rottweiler too so he has a big height advantage to scare them... but they rub all over him and can't get enough. Good luck.

and the puppy won't kill the cat, the cat won't kill the puppy, don't let the puppy be rough with the cat and it will grow up knowing not to hurt the cat. My rottweilers... yes two of them... have had sooo many puppies in this house and none of them hurt the kittens because we discouraged it... it'll be fine as long as you make sure the puppy knows it isn't allowed to hurt the cat.

Get a dog
because cats and dogs are very different.
cats are independent and dogs are dependent on you.
Well my cat comes to me when he's hungry..
but my dog waits until i feed her...
small dogs work good with cats...I have 2 cats and 2 dogs...

wqell, is your cat social or not? Plus, not a kitten, a cat, since the kitten will be abused.
