Fish have a similar mechanism as mammals that prevent solid matter from entering the wind pipe >>>> even though food is engulfed with water - the water passes through the gills - which are their breathing apparatus......etc.etc.

From my observations, a fish just seems to engulf the food...they make a sort of chomping movement, but it all happens very quickly. So I'm not sure...maybe they eat and drink it at the same time.

they suck it ,like a vacume cleaner.
some fish bite and then suck,
depends on the food and the size or type of fish
Carp will graze underwater grass ,like cows.
other fish hunt insects with speed .
the fish world is big with all kinds and sizes
and thousands of variateties of food and hundred of methods of eating
