do a google search for Website Templates. There are many free ones you can download and modify, often using very basic html and style sheets. Even the ones which cost money are worth the price if it serves your purposes.

Close your eyes and imagine what you want..
The usual combo to get what you want is to use a lot of white and some vibrant colors placed here and there, but mostly white- for a professional site.
You can look around the web for designs but dont retro fit it to be yours.(like others said) BE ORIGINAL-

FInd one you like by surfing around pages similar in content to the one you are wanting to build.
Modify the design and make it yours.

You can get free PhotoShop Templates here: http://www.freephotoshoptemplates.com/
You can get free templates here: http://www.free-webpage-templates.info/no-coest/page1.html
and here: http://www.templatesbox.com/templates5.htm
And one of my all time favorites to get ideas is here: http://www.oswd.org/
You can learn quite a bit by taking apart templates, learning CSS (so you can learn to eliminate tables in your designs), and then create something original.
Good luck,

Don't be afraid to use tables. They're a good way to place your items precisely where you want them.
