When you think of a BA or MA, that doesn't actually have anything to do with art as in "fine arts." The line between arts and sciences becomes blurry when you get into the social sciences such as economics, psychology, and archeology. As others have mentioned, it depends on the school. Some schools even have the option of both. You might need to take 12 classes in the department to get the BA and 15 to get the BS.
If you want go on for further study in that field, go for the BS or MS degree. If you are just doing it for a college major and don't plan on getting a job that has a lot to do with it, then it doesn't really matter.

it depends on how the school teaches it.
for some schools, an MS means you take extra science courses, which is the way i would go.
But in other schools, an MA means you take extra Fine Arts courses.
It sounds like the same thing, doesn't it? It isn't.

It relies upon on the position you'll do the masters in Archeology. in case you want to get a draw close in classical archeology, then you actually will likely get a draw close of Arts degree. And is a liberal arts degree a more desirable suitable prerequisite. yet I also spoke of a universities, that promises you a draw close of Philosophy in case you end their Archeology software.

I can't speak about the other comments, as they might be correct at certain schools, but at USF a masters degree in archaeology is an M.A.

I would think it would be science, since it deals with things already existing in nature.
